Skaterham
Young people help to run 'Skaterham', a skatepark in Caterham, where 10,000 members have fun skateboarding and riding BMX bikes in a converted army barracks chapel. Some are active on the Management Committee, some design the space and build ramps, others learn to coach, or work in the skate shop or tuck shop. Since 2004, Skaterham has bid successfully for three High Sheriff Youth Awards to fund new projects. In 2007, £1,000 was awarded to make it easier to keep kit safe. It was also Highly Commended in the 2005 National Crimebeat Awards.
