Past Awards:
Attitude Youth Club, Old Woking
The High Sheriff Youth Awards gave Attitude Youth Club £1,000 to fund a first aid course run by the Red Cross, self defence, martial arts and dance sessions, plus a steel drums workshop and materials for arts and crafts sessions. Up to 60 young people between the ages of 10 and 17 meet once a week at the club, and its youth committee sets the rules, helps run activities and produce publicity leaflets.
Truancy rates have gone down at schools in the area since Attitude Youth Club was set up in 2005, and there is a genuine sense of community self-help amongst club members across the age range.
