One of the High Sheriff Youth Awards team will contact your project and fix a time to visit. You'll be asked questions to help with the assessment - and there will be a chance for you to ask us for advice and assistance, if that helps.

A report is then written about your project. The next step is for your application - and the recommendations in our report - to be considered by an independent group from the High Sheriff Youth Awards scheme. You won't have to wait long for a decision.

Each project is assessed individually, and earns points for how well it meets the aims of our scheme (click here to check that list again). Then we write to let you know whether your project will receive funding - and, if so, how much. We also arrange how you will get the money.

If your bid is successful, you receive more than financial support. To show we value the vital work you are doing to make Surrey safer, the High Sheriff will visit the project and present your group with a Certificate of Recognition. There are times when a project or a piece of good work is so exceptional that the High Sheriff will present a Certificate, even if no grant is requested.

You may also be invited to attend our annual Celebration of Achievements when we spotlight HSYA award winners.

We follow up every project that receives an award. After one year – or at the end of a short-term project – a HSYA assessor will contact those running the project, and assist with the completion of an evaluation form. This way we can better understand how the award money has been used, how it has helped the project - and if there are any ways we can improve our scheme.
