Top Sports Award
The special £500 High Sheriff Sports Award has been won by Woking & Maybury Sports Club. The club beat off opposition from across the county to win the one-off prize given by Mrs Sally Varah, High Sheriff of Surrey 2008-09 to the project Ð run by and for young people Ð that has had most impact on its community in developing diversionary sporting activities. Representatives from the club received the prize at the High Sheriff Youth Awards Celebration Evening (left).
ÒWoking & Maybury Sports Club truly deserves this special Award,Ó said the Past High Sheriff. ÒIt does more than any other project I visited in Surrey in 2008-2009 to use sport to break down racial barriers. It unites its local community and is a beacon for the young people of Maybury. The High Sheriff Youth Awards are all about Ôhelping young people make Surrey saferÕ and this club certainly does that.Ó
