HOWZAT!
The High Sheriff 2009-2010, Lady Toulson, presented the Guildford City Youth Project with a HSYA Certificate, confirming the quality of its work with young cricketers in the Guildford and Woking area. The project, which serves a large area of north-west Surrey, provides cricket coaching and matches for those attending schools that don’t have the facilities for sport, and is particularly inclusive of ethnic minorities.
The HSYA is delighted that its funding grant of £1,000 is being used to develop young cricket coaches in this way. Lady Toulson comments: “This was a memorable and outstanding visit for me. It is apparent that it is an exceptionally well-run club, seeking out and discovering young talent, fostering and developing it to the highest standard. It is also a project that exemplifies the way in which sport can integrate and unite young people of different cultures around skills and friendships. It is to be hoped that the work of such a project can be emulated elsewhere in the county to equal effect.”
